Beginner Slopes / Nursery slopes

“We all had a wonderful time and could not have asked for a better ski experience.”

Steph, Vanessa, Olivia and Tom Duckworth

Probably the biggest secret in Chamonix's vast expanse of skiing is that is has great learner areas. Everybody associates Chamonix with James Bond and Olympic racers not nervous first-timers.

Read on as we describe the Chamonix valley’s excellent beginners’ facilities or visit the ski school section to find out how you can make the most of your time on the mountain. The first thing to remember as a beginner is that every single skier and snowboarder was once a beginner too.

Le Savoy

The Savoy slope is situated within walking distance of town, at the foot of the major ski area of Brevent.. It has two drag lifts, the larger of which is adjacent to the Brevent car park. There is also a free magic carpet lift for those who have just graduated from walking up the hill.

The snack bar is known to do a good hotdog.

Les Planards

The other beginner ski area in Chamonix town is Les Planards. It boasts a chair lift as well as two drag lifts and offers the biggest variety for a mixed group of learners. It has Green, Blue and Red runs as well as the best restaurant of all the beginner areas. Ideal for big groups with different skill and energy levels.

Les Chosalets

Who would have thought that hidden in the trees at the base of one of the best known advanced ski areas in Europe, Grand Montets, is a beginner ski area! Well there is and it is called Les Chosalets. Two drag lifts and an open Green run area are sitting there offering the first step for tomorrow’s big mountain expert.

La Vormaine

At the foot of the Le Tour ski area is the beginner area of La Vormaine and good fun it is too. Three drag lifts and a great big open area to play in with easily the best view from any beginner area in the world. The spectacular La Tour glacier above and the whole Chamonix valley with Mont Blanc opening out below are a feast for your eyes.

Once again it is great for families and groups with a snack bar to make a base for the day which serves a very decent ham and cheese baguette.
